Bournemouth hold Manchester City as Arsenal seal historic Premier League title
AFC Bournemouth kept their UEFA Champions League hopes alive after a dramatic 1-1 draw against Manchester City FC at the Vitality Stadium, a result that officially handed the Premier League title to Arsenal FC for the first time since 2004.
The result marked a huge moment in the title race as City failed to secure the win they desperately needed to keep pressure on Arsenal heading into the final days of the season.
Much of the pre-match attention focused on growing speculation surrounding the future of City manager Pep Guardiola, but Bournemouth quickly showed they were determined to spoil the occasion.
City created the first real opening when Jérémy Doku tested goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović after excellent work from Antoine Semenyo.
Bournemouth responded strongly and thought they had taken the lead through Semenyo, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Moments later, Evanilson missed another promising chance.
Despite City dominating possession, it was Bournemouth who broke the deadlock in stunning fashion. Young forward Junior Kroupi collected a pass from Adrien Truffert before curling a superb finish past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The goal sparked celebrations not only inside the Vitality Stadium but also among Arsenal supporters following events from north London.
After halftime, Bournemouth continued to attack with confidence instead of sitting deep against the defending champions. Donnarumma was forced into several important saves as the hosts threatened to extend their lead.
Teenager Rayan Cherki also came close to adding another goal when his effort struck the post, while substitute David Brooks hit the woodwork late on.
City eventually found an equaliser in the closing moments through Erling Haaland, whose shot clipped the post before finding the net.
However, Guardiola’s side could not find a winner, confirming Arsenal as Premier League champions after a remarkable campaign under Mikel Arteta.
For City, the draw capped a frustrating league campaign despite success in domestic cup competitions.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, continued their impressive rise under Andoni Iraola. The Cherries are now unbeaten in 17 Premier League matches and have already secured European football next season, with Champions League qualification still within reach.
